Our Story
Michael and Sophie met in 2020 as PhD students in Dr. David Kaplan's lab at Tufts University, united by a shared belief that biotechnology can help transform the way we produce food and other essential materials. During their doctoral research, they cultured cells from a wide range of agricultural species. Along the way, they recognized that insect cells represent an exciting and largely untapped opportunity for sustainable biotechnology. Their unique biology offers the potential to overcome key challenges in scalable cultivated food production while opening the door to a new generation of sustainable biotechnologies.
That realization led to the founding of EntoCellular in 2025. Our mission is to unlock the potential of insect cells as a platform for sustainable biotechnology and to help build a more resilient bioeconomy. We're excited to be at the beginning of this journey, and we're grateful for your interest in what we're building.
Our Mission
Our mission at EntoCellular is to create sustainable, cruelty-free, and high-quality products using insect cell culture.
We envision a world where pet food producers have access to a reliable, high-quality protein source that doesn't depend on animal agriculture or compete with the human food supply. In the near term, that means lower dependence on conventional livestock production, lower environmental impact, and more stable supply chains across the pet food industry. Longer term, insect cell culture is a flexible, low-cost biomanufacturing platform with applications in human food and biological research—potentially reshaping how the industry produces protein at scale.
